One worthwhile home repair involves solving a problem you may not realize you have: a clothes dryer vent clogged with lint. But it can make your dryer less efficient and even create a fire hazard, Donovan says.
Vent-cleaning kits are available at hardware stores. Many kits have wire brushes with long, flexible handles, but Donovan recommends using a vacuum-cleaner-hose attachment. To do so, you’ll need to remove the flexible tubing from the back of your dryer and then vacuum out the lint from the tubing and the back of the dryer.
The whole job should take 30 minutes to an hour. Besides the vacuum cleaner, you’ll probably need a screwdriver.
